Oral History

Description and Scope

The Floyd Story Center oral history program (a non-profit, university, and public high school partnership) holds a large digital collection of rich media products.  With over 100 interviews in audio and transcript form, associated evidentiary materials, video, and 60 short films, our oral history archives represent significant documentation of a rural Virginia county.

From 2007-2019 our Roots with Wings: Floyd County Place-based Education Oral History Project, an outreach of the Floyd Story Center, in partnership with Floyd County High School and Radford University, interviewed 28 WWII-era participants, 18 community and neighborhood respondents.  These interviews complement earlier place-based interviews focuses on Buffalo Mountain and the Little River.
